Henford House Lodge

Well equipped self-catering bungalow with own garden in a quiet but easily accessible rural location near Ashwater, 30 mins from Dartmoor or the stunning Cornish coast. Fish the nearby Tamar River, learn to sail at Roadford Lake, surf at Widemouth Bay, go horse riding – or just explore the local towns, admire the views and stroll along one of the beautiful beaches. Whether it’s relaxation or recreation you seek, it’s all here. Perfect for a romantic break for two or a peaceful getaway for one.

Henford House Lodge is located within the large grounds of our smallholding home and overlooks the garden and paddock.

We provide everything you need for your stay except food. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with gas hob, grill, oven, 50/50 fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and a full range of utensils, pots, pans and tableware. The spacious sitting room comes with a dining table, smart TV, and an assortment of books and games. You can settle down in your own conservatory, or eat al fresco in your own little garden (furniture provided). When it’s time to turn in, you can watch TV from the comfort of your king-sized bed with its quality pocket-sprung orthopaedic mattress. The bathroom has a walk-in shower as well as a bathtub with mixer shower. Free unlimited wifi is provided, and the Lodge has full central heating as well as an electric stove in the living room.

The Lodge is a self-catering property so no cleaning will be carried out during your stay, but cleaning equipment and supplies are provided, and bedding and towels will be replaced regularly for longer stay guests. All our bedding and cushions are feather-free. An iron and ironing board can be supplied on request.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the conditions of our smallholding insurance we cannot accommodate any guests under the age of 18 years.

The Lodge shares an entrance gate and yard with the main house and it is surrounded by our garden, paddock and polytunnel, but is otherwise detached and has its own private entrance. Parking is in a private car park across the road from the property (shared with your hosts but there’s plenty of space – we are happy to help you with your luggage if needed).

The bungalow was originally built for an elderly couple so is level throughout, apart from the small step into the shower tray and two steps down into the conservatory. The bath has fairly low sides and a grab handle to assist in getting in and out, and a shower stool is available on request. There are no steps between the car park, gate and Lodge door.  If required, a car can be pulled into the yard for loading or unloading, but it would then have to be reversed into the road.

As we live here we will usually be on hand to answer any queries. We will try not to disturb you, but as we are in the process of creating a working smallholding we may be performing tasks around the land during the day. Bring your wellies if you want to help… 😉

We are happy to try to accommodate an early check-in, subject to needing to clean after other guests (if this is important to you, please check before booking). Similarly, a later check-out may be possible if new guests are not due.

Mobile phone signal may be poor/unavailable if you are not on Vodafone or O2. A torch may be useful – it can be extremely dark here.

No smoking in any part of the Lodge or the grounds please, and no pets.

A lovely rural retreat. Everything you need in a beautiful home from home. Definitely recommend.

This place was lovelier than expected, pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful and spacious the bungalow is. We were fortunate to have lovely weather and we enjoyed sitting in the backyard while looking at the chickens. Kathie was the perfect host, showed us around and allowed us in the bungalow even though we were earlier than the time suggested on the itinerary. Everything was provided so we did not feel the need to bother the host asking for anything. I had also asked the host information about supermarket and she was lovely to explain everything in detail before we arrived. We couldn’t have asked for a better place. I would definitely recommend this place if anyone was looking for a relaxing week/weekend away.

A perfect experience – the photos did not show quite how beautiful and spacious it was and the kitchen had everything the gourmet chef would need in a kitchen – fabulous stay – thank you

Kathie’s b and b was superb. She was a wonderful, thoughtful host. I recommend Henford House Lodge highly for its peaceful location, homely comfort, excellent amenities and immaculate cleanliness but aside from all this, it was incredibly good value.

We had a great stay at Kathie’s place over the Christmas period. A lovely bungalow in a beautiful setting. We particularly enjoyed the views and sense of space gained from the conservatory. All communication and directions were very clear so it all went very smoothly. Many thanks Kathie and Al!

We stayed for 1 week at Kathie lovely bungalow. Everything was thought of, the inventory is extensive and everything was very clean. This bungalow is excellent for folks with mobility problems. We really enjoyed the tranquillity in the country side, but also the convenient lactation to explore Devon and Cornwall .Thank you Katie for your hospitality.

We arrived from wet south west France to a very wet and miserable Devon, wondering what we had done in deciding to move back to the UK. Things were made far better when we moved into Kathie and Al’s self contained bungalow. Always nice and warm, a good kitchen with enough pots, pans and crockery to prepare a meal for an army! Returning to the bungalow every day after working on our new home close by was an absolute joy! Plenty of hot water on tap and a comfortable sitting room to relax in,all surrounded by beautiful and tranquil countryside. We would very highly recommend a stay at Henford Lodge!
